University Student Mental Health Counseling

UNI-COUNSELING – student mental health counseling for educational institutions

We developed UNI-COUNSELING, our student counseling programme, for educational institutions that do not have sufficient local (institutional) funding to maintain their own mental health counseling office or employ a full-time counselor or psychologist, even though such support is needed.

In these circumstances, our organisation enters into a contractual relationship with the institution, allowing students to access counseling free of charge. Services are arranged as a tailored package reflecting the institution’s needs and circumstances. Counseling is available to students in Hungarian and English.

Common topics in university and private vocational school counseling, based on our experience:

  • Learning difficulties and declining academic performance
  • Career choices and orientation
  • Conflicts and difficulties in parent–student or teacher–student relationships
  • Difficulties forming relationships, isolation and loneliness
  • Self-awareness and personal insight
  • Spiritual and faith-related exploration
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Managing situations involving anxiety
  • Prevention of addictive behaviours (e.g. gambling, drug and alcohol problems)
  • Intercultural issues and adjustment
  • Introducing techniques to support the processing of trauma and loss
  • Initial screening – identifying possible psychological difficulties and referring students to appropriate services
  • Life coaching

When student counseling is commissioned as a service package, it may include regular initial screening, educational and awareness-raising campaigns, and preventive workshops in addition to mental health counseling. These elements can be adapted to the needs of the institution.

Our Mental Health Counseling Methods

Psychological and emotional difficulties—including stress, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, drug and alcohol dependence, trauma, grief and life-management challenges—can also affect academic performance, whether directly or indirectly.

On-site mental health counseling and coaching-based support represent a distinctive and innovative way for educational institutions to fulfil their responsibility towards society.
